2024 concludes, leaving behind a complex panorama in Haiti, marked by internal upheaval that affects all levels of national life. In the midst of this uncertainty, a glimmer of hope persists. The aspiration continues to be the pacification of the country and the consolidation of the necessary energies to achieve the long-awaited tranquility that allows development to resume.
In this context, the Jesuits in Haiti have continued the Mission in the midst of many challenges.
During the month of December, a special day of balance and reflection was held, which combined in-person and virtual meetings. This space allowed us to evaluate the efforts made throughout the year in the three main regions where the Jesuits are present: the south, in Carrefour Charles; the center, in Port-au-Prince; and the north, in Wanament.
Furthermore, the end of the year brought with it a special reason for joy for the Jesuit community. Two priests, Father Ambroise Dorino Gabriel and Father Emilio Travieso, made their “last vows”, thus sealing their definitive incorporation into the Society of Jesus. This significant moment was celebrated in Wanament, with the presence of the Provincial of the Caribbean Province, Martin Lenk.
The Jesuits in Haiti renew their commitment to the mission and move forward with hope towards 2025, trusting that the forces deployed will contribute to building a better future for the country.
